“…I have always believed that America’s greatest asset is
its people…That is why I also believe that we must foster even deeper connections
among Americans and peoples around the globe. Our long-term
security will come not from our ability to instill fear in other peoples, but through our capacity to speak
to their hopes. And that work will best be done through the power of the decency and dignity of the American
people – our troops and diplomats, but also our private sector, nongovernmental organizations, and citizens.
All of us have a role to play.”
Barack Obama, President of the United States, May
2010
Long-term working relationships across international borders
do not spontaneously arise from a single encounter!
Relationship-building requires a systematic approach to “connecting the dots”, which the
International Council frequently does with its international visitor alumni, as well as with
the professional and community resources with
whom they meet during their IVLP visit. In addition to maintaining
an active communications platform with our distinguished visitors, the International Council can, from time to
time, create "special projects" with them, establish a working framework for further collaboration
and connect our visitors with partners in the US and around the world.
